SAUCE HISTORY

Guy’s humble beginnings and journey goes back to a small town called Braceville (approximately 8 miles from Warren, OH). Guy was raised in this small, close-knit community with his mother, father and 3 siblings. There were many vivid childhood memories of summertime, especially mom standing over a smoke-filled BBQ pit, slathering finger-licking sauce on chicken and ribs. Next to Christmas, summers were the best time of the year — lots of fun and family cookouts. Guy took his family’s secret recipe for BBQ sauce and added his “special” ingredients that further enhanced what is now known as “Guy’s Award Winning BBQ Sauce.” The rest, as they say, is history.

Before Guy’s sauce became available to the public, his sauce had only been served to a few friends, including college kumba and now superstar, Steve Harvey. A host of other BBQ enthusiasts included Peter Frampton, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Michael Stanley, Joan Jett, Saliva, and Grammy Nominee “Nelly.” In April of 2002, Guy Hughes was acknowledged as being one of the best BBQ chefs in Ohio after winning several rib competitions. Due to customer demand, Guy’s Award Winning BBQ Sauce was first produced in a manufacturing plant in Erie, PA, then Cleveland, OH, and now at Summer Garden Food Manufacturing in Boardman, OH.

The first big break for Guy’s Award Winning BBQ Sauce came from Phar-Mor discount club; they were buying by the truckloads. Then Sam’s Clubs, Giant Eagle, and Tops Friendly Markets were added to the list of stores selling Guy’s Award Winning BBQ Sauce. To add our accomplishments, Guys Award Winning BBQ Sauce is now available at thousands of stores. It is also being sold on Amazon among others, and ships to all 50 states and Canada. Additionally, Valley Foods Inc. of Youngstown, OH is now using Guy’s BBQ Sauce for their military meals because of the low sodium.
